The Ranch Academy is where hands-on learning meets real-world skills. At Tecate Horse Rescue, we’ve created a unique environment where horses, land, and people come together to teach resilience, responsibility, and creativity. Through structured programs, workshops, and immersive ranch experiences, participants gain practical knowledge while discovering confidence, teamwork, and purpose.
Who We Serve
The Ranch Academy welcomes students, families, community groups, and individuals of all ages who want to learn new skills in a supportive, nature-based setting. From youth completing volunteer hours to adults seeking vocational training or families looking for educational experiences, our academy offers something for everyone.
We also partner with city, county, and federal programs to provide essential skills training. These programs focus on basic life skills needed to survive, gain employment, secure housing, and thrive in today’s world.
Program Options
We provide a wide range of hands-on programs that can be tailored to different ages and interests, including:
- Horsemanship & Animal - understanding horses, donkeys, and ranch livestock.
- Outdoor Skills & Self-Reliance - fire building, water collection, shelter building, off-grid living basics.
- Greenhouse Gardening & Regenerative Farming - seed starting, sustainable field crops, composting, and water harvesting for a more resilient food system.
- Beekeeping & Animal Husbandry - caring for bees, ducks, rabbits, sheep, and more.
- Sustainable Living & Land Stewardship - soil health, composting systems, and conservation practices that restore the land.
- Creative Trades & Skills - leatherwork, woodworking, welding, solar basics, and laser engraving.
- Applied Academics & Arts - learning applied math and science through ranch work, exploring music and art as tools of creativity and healing.
- Creative Trades & Skills - tai chi, self-defense, and nature-based practices.
Programs can be offered as day visits, weekend intensives, or multi-week learning modules. Overnight tent camping is available for groups who want an extended ranch experience.
