Meet Ella
Meet Ella — A Second Chance That Almost Didn’t Happen
Ella is a gentle 20-year-old mare we rescued from a direct ship lot in Bowie, Texas—one of the many places where horses have no visibility, no advocacy, and no second chance.
When we arrived, Ella ran straight toward me in a panic. It was one of those moments you don’t forget. The only way I can describe it is this: she was asking for help.
That day, we were able to pull Ella and one other horse and rush them to veterinary care. There, we discovered Ella had been living with untreated EPM. We provided immediate treatment, and while she improved, the disease has left her with lasting weakness in her hind end.
Today, Ella is a companion-only horse—but what she offers goes far beyond riding.
She is kind, present, and deeply deserving of a safe place to land.
Ella will require a dedicated adopter who understands her needs, including ongoing supportive care and regular attention. In return, she offers something simple and powerful: connection, trust, and the quiet presence that so many of our horses bring into people’s lives.
At Tecate Horse Rescue, this is the work—stepping in before it’s too late, and then ensuring each horse has the opportunity to live out their life with dignity.
Ella’s adoption fee is $800.
If you or someone in your network is looking for a loving pasture companion, or if you’d like to support horses like Ella, we would love to connect.
Because sometimes, rescue starts with a single moment—and the decision to say yes.
